Every cutting process — laser, plasma, stamping, punching — leaves behind a thin, rough edge of displaced metal called a burr. Deburring is the process of removing that burr to produce a clean, safe, functional edge.
Why burrs are a problem
Safety — sharp edges cut operators and end users.
Assembly — burrs prevent parts from fitting together accurately.
Coating — paint and powder coat poorly over burrs.
Quality — burrs look unprofessional and can fail dimensional checks.
What a deburring machine actually does
A belt deburring machine feeds parts under abrasive belts that remove burrs and oxide scale; brush rollers then round the edges (a step called edge rounding or chamfering). The result is a smooth, paint-ready surface.
When to automate
If you process more than a few dozen parts a day, automation almost always pays for itself in labor savings and consistency.
